Music, Culture, Social Change: A Panel and Performance Benefit

Thursday, July 14, 2022, 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Guilford, CT

From the great spirituals and "Lift Every Voice and Sing," to Marian Anderson, Woody Guthrie, Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, Marvin Gaye and more, music and culture have reflected--and contributed to--social change in the United States. Join us for a discussion of this history and how more recent artists are addressing social concerns. Brandon Sherrod will also play the piano and sing!

  • Jeffrey Ogbar, Professor of History and Director, Center for the Study of Popular Music, University of Connecticut

Panelists include:

  • Lisa Dent, Executive Director, Artspace
  • Brandon Sherrod, musical artist and Connecticut CASA ambassador
  • Bradford Watson, CEO/Founder of Spinach Records
